How to Play the Online Lottery

Online Lottery

You can buy a lottery ticket online with the same method you use to buy tickets in brick-and-mortar stores. You’ll need to choose 5 numbers between 1 and 69, and a Powerball number between 1 and 26. You can choose to play the lottery weekly or for a period of time, depending on your preferences. Many online lottery websites automatically calculate the price of a ticket for you.

Most state lotteries allow you to subscribe to their draws in advance. That way, you won’t have to run to the store every week to buy a single ticket. You can subscribe to certain draws, such as Powerball, for a fixed amount of time. And, because the lottery is online, you can see the results immediately after the draw.

Today, only seven jurisdictions in the US offer an online lottery. That number is down from eight in 2015, when Minnesota terminated its program. However, the Department of Justice clarified its position on the Wire Act, opening the door for more states to offer online lottery tickets. Some states have a dedicated lotto online application while others use a third-party application. Other states have yet to launch an online lottery, citing verification issues.

In spite of the legality of online lotteries, some states are still wary of them. While New Hampshire, New Jersey, and Connecticut have already legalized online lottery games, these sites are still prohibited in most other states. For this reason, it’s best to check with the gaming regulator of your state before participating in an online lottery.
